ACORD 81 is the Personal Inland Marine Application used to describe valuable personal property submitted for scheduled or blanket coverage. It can organize jewelry, fine art, cameras, musical instruments, collections, computers, sporting equipment, and other eligible items. The insurer decides what property and causes of loss it will cover.

What is ACORD 81 used for?

Vertafore's current personal lines map identifies ACORD 81 as the Personal Inland Marine Application.[1] The Oklahoma Insurance Department recorded ACORD's 2012 filing of the revised 2012/02 application.[2] It provides a structured way to submit property classes, item descriptions, amounts of insurance, and underwriting information.

What property can appear on the application?

The form accommodates categories such as jewelry, furs, fine arts, cameras, musical instruments, silverware, stamps, coins, computers, electronic equipment, and sporting or other valuable property. Eligibility and coverage terms vary by insurer. A category appearing on the application does not mean every item in that category will be accepted.

Scheduled property is generally identified item by item with a requested amount. Blanket coverage may group eligible property subject to its own limits and conditions. Ask which approach is being proposed and how an unscheduled item would be treated after a loss.

What should you prepare?

Use a clear description that distinguishes each scheduled item. Depending on the property, that may include maker, model, material, identifying number, dimensions, purchase date, or provenance. Provide the current appraisal, bill of sale, receipt, or other evidence the insurer requests. Do not increase an old value without support or assume sentimental value is insurable.

Answer questions about professional or commercial use, exhibitions, unattended vehicles, safes, alarms, and storage accurately. Report losses and existing insurance as requested. If property moves between residences, vaults, exhibitions, or other locations, explain the pattern rather than listing only where it sits today.

Does ACORD 81 insure the listed items?

No. It is an application. An insurer can accept, decline, limit, or separately schedule an item. Review the declarations or property schedule for the exact description and limit. Then read the policy and endorsements for deductibles, valuation, territory, exclusions, and special conditions.

Where can you obtain the form?

Eligible users can access current forms through ACORD's Forms Portal.[3] Use the agency's or insurer's authorized copy and keep supporting valuation documents with your records.
