HO 24 75 is a homeowners endorsement for liability involving a described watercraft. It extends personal liability and medical payments to others; it does not itself add physical-damage insurance for the boat.
Why add a watercraft endorsement?
A homeowners policy's treatment of boats depends on its wording, including factors such as propulsion, length and horsepower. Insurance Agents & Brokers' licensing manual describes HO 24 75 as a way to cover described boats outside certain base-policy size or engine restrictions.[1]
That does not mean every insurer offers it or every boat qualifies. Review the actual homeowners form and proposed endorsement together. The HO 00 03 guide explains the broader distinction between property and liability coverage.
What needs to be described?
Check the vessel description and length, motor information and horsepower, ownership, and annual navigation period. A renewal checklist should flag a replacement boat, engine upgrade, changed ownership, longer season or new use. Do not assume the old schedule automatically covers a changed exposure.
FC&S publishes the liability and exclusion provisions with ISO permission. Those provisions extend Coverage E and Coverage F to described watercraft and retain important restrictions.[2]
Which uses remain excluded?
The reproduced provisions exclude rental to others, carrying people or cargo for payment, and business use. Organized racing or practice is excluded, but the wording excepts sailing vessels and predicted log cruises. That exception removes this particular racing restriction; it does not guarantee coverage under every remaining term.[2]
Employee injuries connected with specified watercraft duties also require review. Read the exact edition rather than assuming all watercraft endorsements use identical wording.
Frequently asked questions
Does HO 24 75 cover damage to my own boat?
The endorsement itself adds liability protection, not hull coverage. Any existing homeowners property protection is a separate, limited question. Compare dedicated boat coverage for physical damage and other needs.
Can I use it for paid charters?
Do not rely on it for that use: paid carriage and business use are excluded in the reproduced provisions.
Is this an official downloadable form?
No. This is an original educational explainer. Request the exact issued endorsement and edition from the insurer or agent.
