Questions we get asked

What does RV insurance cover?

Typically liability for injuries and damage you cause, collision and comprehensive damage to the RV, and options like personal effects, vacation liability, roadside assistance and emergency expenses if a breakdown leaves you away from home. What applies depends on the type of RV and how you use it.

Do I need separate insurance for a travel trailer?

Often, yes. When you tow a trailer, liability on the road usually comes from the tow vehicle's auto policy, but damage to the trailer itself and your belongings inside it generally is not covered there. A policy for the trailer covers those, plus liability while it is parked at a campsite.

What is full-timer coverage?

It is coverage for people who live in their RV for most or all of the year. Because the RV is the household's home, full-timer coverage adds personal liability and medical payments similar to a homeowners policy, and often more coverage for belongings. Tell us if the RV is your primary residence so the policy matches.

What is total loss replacement?

On a newer RV, total loss replacement pays for a new RV of similar make and model if yours is totaled within a set period, rather than its depreciated value. Eligibility usually depends on the RV's age and whether you are its first owner, and the terms vary by policy. For an older RV, agreed value or actual cash value is the usual choice.

What is vacation liability?

It covers injuries and damage when the RV is parked and used as your temporary home, for example if a guest trips on your campsite steps. Your auto policy is written for driving, so this gap is easy to miss. Full-timers usually need the broader full-timer liability instead.

Is my RV covered while it is stored?

Usually, if you keep comprehensive coverage in place during storage. It protects against theft, fire and weather damage while the RV is parked. Some policies let you reduce driving coverages during a defined storage period, which lowers the premium. Confirm the change before anyone drives it again.

Does this policy cover wear and mechanical breakdown?

Engine and generator failure, tire wear and gradual deterioration are maintenance, not insured losses.

Does this policy cover living in the RV without full-timer coverage?

A policy written for trips does not fit an RV that is your home. Full-time use needs full-timer coverage, which adds protection closer to a homeowners policy.

Does this policy cover renting the RV to others?

Renting the RV out, directly or through a sharing platform, is generally excluded on a personal RV policy unless specifically arranged.

Does this policy cover hauling or working for pay?

Using the RV to earn money, such as hauling for hire, is generally outside a personal RV policy.

Can you write this where I live?

We offer coverage in the states where we are licensed. Begin a quote with the address of your business or risk, and we'll let you know which markets can write that location before you spend much time on the questions.

What happens after I start a quote?

Tell us about the coverage you need and complete the application. We use those details to approach suitable markets and may ask follow-up questions. Requesting a quote does not put coverage in force.
