ACORD 127 is the Business Auto Section of a commercial insurance application. It organizes information an insurer may use to evaluate a business auto account, including policy details, drivers, vehicles, operations, and requested coverage. It supports underwriting, but it is not a policy, binder, insurance card, or promise that an insurer will offer particular terms.

What information does ACORD 127 collect?

Vertafore maps business auto policy information to ACORD 127 and identifies driver information and general account questions among the data carried to the form.[1] Its business auto map also explains that ACORD 127 and the state-specific ACORD 137 coverage section correspond to different parts of the same commercial auto workflow.[2]

Expect the producer to confirm the named insured, mailing and garaging information, business operations, policy dates, drivers, vehicles, and requested auto coverage. Do not rely only on last year's application. Compare the draft with motor vehicle records, vehicle registrations, lease or loan records, and the current fleet list.

When are ACORD 129 and ACORD 163 used with it?

A business with more entries than fit in the main section may need continuation schedules. Vertafore says its AMS360 workflow adds ACORD 129 when a business auto policy includes eight or more vehicles.[2] The same vendor's ACORD 127 map says its system places the first ten drivers on ACORD 127 and sends additional drivers to ACORD 163.[1] Those are documented software behaviors, not universal thresholds for every carrier or agency system.

Ask which schedules the receiving insurer requires. A complete vehicle list without a complete driver list, or the reverse, can leave an underwriter unable to assess the account.

Does ACORD 127 prove that business auto coverage is active?

No. ACORD 127 records application information. It does not show that the insurer accepted the risk, agreed to every requested symbol or limit, or bound coverage at a stated time. ACORD also explains that it does not provide insurance coverage or process claims.[3]

After approval, compare the binder or policy declarations with the request. Check named insureds, effective dates, covered auto symbols, limits, deductibles, vehicle descriptions, and endorsements. Resolve differences before putting a vehicle into service based on an assumption.

Where can you get the official ACORD 127 form?

Eligible users can search for current forms through the ACORD Forms Portal after login.[4] Agencies may also provide a licensed copy through approved management software. This page explains the form but does not reproduce or offer an unofficial blank ACORD form.

Frequently asked questions

Is ACORD 127 the same as a commercial auto policy

No. It is an application section used to submit underwriting information. The insurer's binder, declarations, endorsements, and policy establish the actual coverage.

Should hired and non-owned auto exposure be disclosed

Yes, when it applies. Describe how the business uses vehicles it hires, rents, borrows, or does not own, and let the producer place the details on the required application or supplement.

The Bottom Line

ACORD 127 helps organize a business auto submission. Review every driver, vehicle, use, and requested coverage with current records, include any required schedules, and compare the insurer's issued documents with the application. A completed form starts underwriting. It does not finish it.
