Shrink the Wind and Hail Deductible on Your Home

Many home policies carry a separate wind, hail or hurricane deductible, and it can run to tens of thousands of dollars. A deductible buy back brings what you pay after a storm down to as little as $5,000. Tell us where you live and a licensed broker will follow up. Currently serving California.

When the storm deductible is the problem

Here is how it plays out. A storm breaks the windows and tears up the roof, and the damage comes to $100,000. The home policy has a $30,000 storm deductible. With a buy back, the owner pays $5,000 to get repairs started and the buy back pays the other $25,000.

  • A big storm deductible

Your home policy has a high wind, hail or hurricane deductible, and paying it the week after a storm would hurt.

  • A home worth rebuilding

Your home is insured for at least $250,000 to rebuild.

What each half of this policy covers

What it usually covers

  • Wind, hail and hurricane damage
  • The part of your storm deductible above the lower amount you keep
  • A covered loss under your home policy, even when the damage does not reach the full deductible

What it does not cover

  • Anything your home policy does not cover. The buy back only works on that policy's deductible
  • Homes insured for less than $250,000 to rebuild

Questions we get asked

Does the damage have to go over my deductible first?

No. It pays on a covered loss under your home policy even if the deductible is not met.

Will my home qualify?

Usually, if it is insured for at least $250,000 to rebuild. It is offered in all 50 states, including California.

What will I need when I make a claim?

Your home policy number and the name of your home insurer.

What happens after I start a quote?

Tell us about the coverage you need and complete the application. We use those details to approach suitable markets and may ask follow-up questions. Requesting a quote does not put coverage in force.
