ACORD 163 is the Commercial Auto Driver Information Schedule. It organizes additional driver details that support a commercial auto application. It is a schedule, not a policy, motor vehicle report, or statement that a driver has been approved.

When is ACORD 163 used?

The schedule accompanies a commercial auto submission when the main ACORD 127 Business Auto Section does not conveniently hold every driver entry. System behavior varies: one platform may place a set of drivers on ACORD 127 and continue the list on ACORD 163, while another may paginate differently. Treat the form as an additional driver schedule rather than relying on a universal row limit.[1]

What information should be reviewed?

Review each driver's full legal name, date of birth, license number and state, years of driving experience, and relationship to the business. Confirm any fields describing vehicle assignment, use, accidents, or violations against the agency's source records. Do not guess at an abbreviated license number or substitute one driver's history for another.

The schedule may be only one part of the underwriting file. The insurer can request motor vehicle reports, loss information, training records, or explanations for particular incidents. Privacy and permissible-use rules apply to driver data and reports.

Does ACORD 163 add a driver to coverage?

No. It communicates application information. Whether a person is a covered, acceptable, excluded, or restricted driver depends on the insurer's underwriting decision and the issued policy. Compare the final quote and policy documents with the submitted driver list, especially after hiring a new driver or changing vehicle assignments.

Where can you obtain the form?

Use the current version supplied by the agency, carrier, or authorized forms system. ACORD's Forms Portal is the official search point for eligible users.[2] Menlo does not reproduce the copyrighted blank form.

Frequently asked questions

Is ACORD 163 the same as a motor vehicle report?

No. It records driver information for the application. An MVR is a separate driving-record report obtained under applicable authorization and privacy rules.

Should former drivers remain on the schedule?

Tell the agency who no longer drives for the business and the effective date of the change. The insurer determines the documentation and policy action required.

The Bottom Line

Use ACORD 163 to keep a commercial auto submission's driver roster complete and traceable. Verify every driver against reliable records, then confirm the insurer's issued documents reflect the intended result.
